CONVERSATIONS from the POINTED FIRS
A monthly 1-hour audio series with Maine-connected authors, artists, innovators, thinkers, doers, and exemplars, discussing literature, creative projects, art, music, and more that invokes the spirit of Maine, its history, its ecology, its culture, and its contribution to community and quality of life.
What is Maine? Who is Maine? What have been the stories of those who have lived here from the beginning? Of those who have migrated here? Those that continue to inhabit this unique place?
IN 2021 Leete’s Island Books launched a monthly series of conversations with Maine-connected authors and artists about new books and creative projects that invoke the spirit of Maine, its history, its ecology, its culture, and its contribution to community and quality of life.
Conversations from the Pointed Firs: one hour talks between host Peter Neill and the authors and artists, thinkers, doers, and makers who live in Maine, work in Maine, or otherwise derive their creativity from the essence of this great state.
The program airs monthly on WERU-FM Community Radio in Orland, Maine and is available on Spotify, iTunes, Google Play, and wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts. Discussions will revolve around questions designed to invoke the authors’ historical connection to Maine; the inspiration derived from Maine’s landscape, history, people, and quality of life; specific challenges and outcomes faced in the making of recently published works; and personal anecdotes and experiences that infuse their writings with the essence of Maine.
As with The Country of the Pointed Firs, the classic fictional portrait of 19th century Maine life written by Sarah Orne Jewett, Conversations from the Pointed Firs focuses on the culture of Maine as seen through its most creative observers and their evocations of its spirit of place.
