Ian Ludders

Longtime sternman for Bob Quinn on Eagle Island in Penobscot Bay, Ian was given access to the diaries of Dalton Raynes, who, at the age of 19, came to Eagle to carve out a life, working the same land and the same waters as Ludders and Quinn more than 100 years later. Ian compiled Raynes' sparely-written diary entries with his own funny and fascinating footnotes into the book “Didn’t Do Much but a Little of Everything: The 1897 Eagle Island Diary of Dalton Raynes.”

Ian Ludders
"Didn’t Do Much but a Little of Everything" is a micro-history of Dalton Raynes—whose workday diary from his 19th year serves as the book's center—and of Bob Quinn, Ludders's lobster-boat captain, who has worked on Eagle Island all his life. The book encapsulates life on that island in 1897, and was produced primarily for the small circle of people who know and love the place—but it will be of interest to anyone who loves Maine, islands, and coastal living. "Didn't Do Much but a Little of Everything" can be ordered by searching the title at www.lulu.com/shop, as can the latest book from Ludders and Quinn, "The Log of the Herring-Pumper BERYL."
